Abstract
Independent modern literature in Russia was created by Tolstoi and Dostoevski. It was a deep reflection upon what Russian realism had done. Their works were based not only on learning, art and religion, but through their works they attempted to solve all these problems. However, they had different methods. In contrast to Tolstoi, Dostoevski tried to solve everything from the inside of the work, and by the study of Russian medieval thought he found a way to describe the inner revolution of the Russian spirit.
