Sources of error of the acid hematin, methemoglobin and cyanhemoglobin methods for the determination of hemoglobin are pointed out. New methods based on the colorimetric comparison of alkaline hematin, ammoniacal methemoglobin and ammoniacal cyanhemoglobin are proposed.
