Abstract

1. Isolated rat liver ribosomes incubated with ATP, GTP, energy-generating system and cell sap incorporated 14C-leucine into catalase [EC 1. 11. 1. 6] for at least 60min. The conditions required for incorporation were described.
2. The ribosome and the cell sap from the liver of rats transplanted with ascites hepatoma cells, or injected with aminotriazole, allylisopropylacetamide, cycloheximide and actinomycin D, were investigated for the ability to incorporate 14C-leucine into catalase. A decrease in the incorporation observed with those cell-free systems was discussed in comparison with change in the amount of catalase in the liver from which the ribosome and the cell sap were prepared.
3. Both free and membrane-bound polysome preparations were found to be active in catalase biosynthesis.
