A Novel Trisialosyl Ganglioside, IV³α(NeuAc)₃nLcOse₄Cer, from Hog Kidney Cortex

Abstract

A novel trisialosyl ganglioside was isolated from hog kidney cortex and purified in a homogeneous form with a yield of 2.5 nmol/g wet tissue or 4.9 mol% of the total gangliosides. The pure substance was characterized chemically and enzymatically, and the results suggested the structure of this ganglioside is NeuAca2-8NeuAcα2-8NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-4G1eNAcβ1-3Galp1-4Glcβ1-1Cer (trisialosyl lactoneotetraosyl-ceramide, L_T1, IV³α(NeuAc)₃nLcOse₄Cer).
