There are two kinds of paper awards given to the authors of the original articles, which have been published from Biophysics and Physicobiology (BPPB): Award for Outstanding BPPB Paper and BPPB Editors’ Choice Award.
The former is given by the Biophysical Society of Japan (BSJ) to the authors, who contributed to the advancement of biophysics by their groundbreaking article, published between 2017 and 2022. This year, the committee organized in the BSJ for the 13th Award for Outstanding BPPB paper has selected Drs. Keiichi Kojima, Hiroshi C. Watanabe, Satoko Doi, Natsuki Miyoshi, Misaki Kato, Hiroshi Ishikita, and Yuki Sudo, for their article “Mutational analysis of the conserved carboxylates of anion channelrhodopsin-2 (ACR2) expressed in Escherichia coli and their roles in anion transport” Biophys. Physicobiol. 15, 179–188 (2018) [1].
The latter one, the 11th BPPB Editors’ Choice Award, is given by the BSJ to the authors of the articles in the BPPB, who made scientifically unique contributions to the field of biophysics, published in 2023. This year, the awardees are the following nine authors. Dr. Shoji Takada in Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University [2], Dr. Toshiki Yagi, in Faculty of Bioresource Sciences, Prefectural University of Hiroshima [3], Dr. Tony Z. Jia, in Earth-Life Science Institute, Tokyo Institute of Technology [4], Dr. Kazuharu Arakawa, in Institute for Advanced Biosciences, Keio University [5], Dr. Atsushi Mochizuki, in Institute for Life and Medical Sciences, Kyoto University [6], Dr. Hisashi Okumura, in Department of Structural Molecular Science, SOKENDAI [7], Dr. Daisuke Kohda, in Medical Institute of Bioregulation, Kyushu University [8], Dr. Junichi Higo, in Graduate School of Information Science, University of Hyogo [9], and Dr. John L. Spudich, in Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston [10].
