Abstract
To clarify 10th-grade high school students' interest in sexual health and the content of sexual information sought through sex education classes, and to consider the role and issues expected of midwives as external lecturers based on the position of sex education classes in higher education.
The participants were 101 10 th - grade high school students (63 girls, 38 boys). (1) A questionnaire survey on cervical cancer vaccination and education on ejaculation and assignments to preview before classes on developmental challenges, sexually transmitted diseases, and preventive methods were presented in advance, along with the class content. (2) After the classes, the degree of satisfaction was evaluated and reflections were collected.
As a result, the following was clarified.
(1) The cervical cancer vaccination rate for girls was four people (seven percent), and the acquisition rate of information in advance on ejaculation in boys was 16 people (42%). All participants submitted questionnaires and assignments to preview before class. (2) In the satisfaction survey, the response rate was 95%, with 45% satisfied, 24% moderately satisfied, and 28% neither satisfied nor dissatisfied. The most popular topic of interest was ″sexual violence and the law,″ at 57%. (3) In the impressions, about gynecological examinations, dysmenorrhea symptoms and control status, pills, contraceptive methods, abortion methods, interest in sexual violence, etc. were described.
The participants deepened their interest in topics through assignments in health and physical education classes. They also conveyed their thoughts in evaluations after class and expressed their interest in each topic of each class concretely in their reflections. The results showed the importance of providing information that meets needs and presenting specific skill development methods for the self-control of sexual health in classes in higher education courses by midwives, who can protect sexual health.
