A new species, Zingiber procumbens Nob.Tanaka & M.M.Aung (Zingiberaceae), from Kayah State, eastern Myanmar, is described with color plates. Zingiber procumbens is assignable to section Cryptanthium Horan. based on lateral inflorescences on the procumbent peduncles. This species is similar to Z. bradleyanum Craib in vegetative characters, but well distinguished from it by a combination of long bilobed ligules, lamina with silvery line, procumbent peduncle, tubular bracts with dark reddish stripes, and flowers with purple orbicular labellum. Detailed descriptions, color plates and preliminary IUCN assessments are provided.
