Abstract

Koordersiella insectivora (Hansf.) D.Hawksw. & O.E.Erikss. (Lophiotremataceae, Ascomycota) is reported here as a new record for Japan along with the genus Koordersiella which has not previously been recorded in Japan. This lichenicolous fungus has been found only on foliicolous lichens, and has a wide distribution from tropical to temperate regions. Japanese specimens were collected from foliicolous Gomphillaceae growing on the leaves of broad-leaved evergreen trees and palms in areas ranging from Kanagawa Prefecture to Okinawa Prefecture. This study provides a description based on the Japanese material and discusses observed morphological variation. Although attempts were made to extract and amplify DNA, no reliable sequence data could be obtained from the specimens.
