Abstract
Sporophytes of Ditrichum lineare (Sw.) Lindb. were found at Hachioji-shi, Tokyo, and Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki Pref., central Japan, which was the first record of them in Japan. Sporophytes of Ditrichum lineare matured in July in central Japan. Based on these specimens, gametophytic and sporophytic characters are described as follows. Perichaetial leaves much larger than stem leaves, 2-3 mm long, from long sheathing base abruptly narrowed to an apex. Calyptra cucullate. Capsules erect, oblong to cylindric, symmetric to weakly asymmetric; urn 1.3-1.5×0.3-0.4 mm, brown, smooth even when dry; setae 14-20 mm long, reddish to yellowish brown; peristome teeth ca. 200μm long, finely papillose throughout, divided by perforations into 2± adhering divisions; annulus of 2-3 rows; operculum conic. Spores 12-14μm in daiameter, smooth or finely papillose.
