Abstract

In the activity of the cicada for producing sound, synchrony is usually observed between the action potential of the main sound muscle and the damped oscillation in sound wave. But there are some species that show the lack of such a synchrony, which is very similar to the case of the wing muscle of certain insects. The purpose of the present work is in the elucidation of the nature of this phenomenon which is a very interesting problem as to the muscle physiology of insects.
