Abstract
Conditions are discussed for optimizing resolution and luminosity of a Fabry-Perot interferometer and a scattering optical system used in a Brillouin scattering experiment, in which the scattered light is collected at right angles to the laser beam. The maximum amount of scattered light can be collected when the numerical aperture (NA) of the entrance pinhole is 3.62×10-3 radians and the magnification of the collecting optics is 2.For the present instrument NA of 3.62×10-3 radians corresponds to the pinhole diameter of 2mm.The Brillouin spectral width due to the instrumental function, phonon decay rate, and magnification is also discussed.By using the optimum conditions cited above, the Brillouin spectra of mixed crystals KCl1-xBrx have been measured.
