Abstract
Recently, the demand on the photosensitive device for detection vacuum ultraviolet (VUV for short) has been increasing in the field of astronomical optics and plasma measurement. And this is the report on the characteristics of photomultiplier tube (PMT for short) for detecting VUV radiation. PMT for VUV should have the high quantum efficiency and good solar blindness. MgF2 plate is suitable for PMT window because of its high transmittance in VUV region and stability for humidity.
The curve of spectral quantum efficiency of the photocathode shows different shape owing to its materials. The quantum efficiencies at 121.6 nm wavelength are obtained to be 5-22% owing to photocathode materials in our measurement. The current amplification, dark pulse height distribution and time response are also discussed in this report.
