The purpose of this study is to apply near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to the field of forensic science. In the present paper, the non-destructive method was applied to the qualitative and quantitative analyses of the principal ingredient in tablets. By analyzing the second derivative spectra of powdered tablets, characteristic absorption bands relevant to functional groups were found, which being successfully utilized for the determination of the principal ingredients.
