Abstract
A spectrophotometric determination of beryllium using Naphthochrome Green G is presented. The procedure recommended after various fundamental experiments is as follows;
To an aliquot of Be solution (Be : 0.254 μg) in a 25 ml volumetric flask, are added 1ml of 0.2% Naphthochrome Green G (C. I. 44530) alcoholic solution and 1 ml of 1% gelatine solution, and the mixture is diluted to the mark with 1M ammonium acetate buffer solution (pH 5.56.2). The absorbancy of the solution is measured after 1.5 hours at 652 mμ against a reagent blank. Beryllium is determined on a calibration curve prepared with a series of known Be solution.
The molar extinction coefficient was found to be 38, 800.
The method proved to be one of the best for the determination of Be.
