Abstract

A new ion chromatographic method using an ultraviolet spectrophoto-metric detector has been developed for the simultaneous determination of nitrite, and nitrate ions in foods. Measurements conducted at an absorption wavelength of 210 nm using 15 mM Na2B4O7/1 mM Na2CO3 as the eluent showed that both nitrite and nitrate ions could be determined without the influence of chloride ion. The detection limits were 10 ppb for nitrite ion and 5 ppb for nitrate ion.
