Abstract
Experience shows that the contrast of an image can be enhanced by amplifying the magnitude of the edge gradient. Wavelets provide multiscale edge gradient images. And there is a possibility that fine structures of a certain size can be amplified by modifying the modulus of the gradient images with suitable weights. In this paper, we propose a method of determining the optimal weights to enhance fine structures of a certain size. By applying this method to a mammogram, we demonstrate its ability to selectively enhance fine sturcture of a certain size.
