Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has attracted considerable attention as a photocatalyst that is active in visible-light and can be used for H2 evolution, CO2 conversion, and H2O2 generation. This review focuses on its applications in environmental remediation, particularly the degradation and removal of pollutants such as organic dyes, emerging pharmaceutical materials, various antibiotics, air pollutants, volatile organic compounds and bacteria. The prospectives for replacing active carbons and expanding applications into the biomedical field are also discussed.
