Abstract

Lens hardening is an early symptom of age-related nuclear cataract. In this study, we measured the changes in lens elasticity in the selenite-induce rats by using kinetic analysis. The lens opacification was caused by a single subcutaneous injection of 3.5 mg/kg sodium selenite. On the other hand, the subcutaneous injection of 0.5-2.5 mg/ kg sodium selenite enhanced the lens hardening, although the lens was clear. Moreover, the kinetic analysis using exponential equation reflect the changes in lens hardening at multiple points, and the analysis was more suitable in evaluating changes in lens hardness than the conventional method without kinetic analysis. In conclusion, we showed that the application of kinetics analysis can more accurately evaluate changes in lens elasticity.
