Abstract
Steel-making slag concrete is made of industrial by-product in ironworks. Ground granulated blast furnace slag as binder is used, and steel-making slag is used as aggregate. The calcium hydroxide leaching from steel-making slag acts as alkali activator of ground granulated blast furnace slag. Steel-making slag concrete can be hardened by itself with out any cement. Steel-making slag concrete is used for foot protection blocks and marine blocks, now. Steel-making slag concrete does not use any natural aggregate, either. Steel-making slag concrete is expected as a material reducing environmental load. In this study, the improvement of problem using steel-making slag concrete on land is verified. In case of indoor curing, the Young’s modulus decreases along with time. In addition, cracks are caused on the surface of test pieces and RC beams with steel-making slag concrete. The drying shrinkage strain and carbonation of steel-making slag concrete is almost equal as cement concrete. In order to control the cracks steel-making slag fine aggregate is replaced with blast furnace slag fine aggregate. In addition, cement and flyash as a part of binder. Then there is no crack on test pieces and RC beams with the steel-making slag concrete. This is an effective method to use steel-making slag concrete on land.
