At the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant, the cesium adsorbed zeolite is increasing due to secondary waste from treating radioactive contaminated water. However, its disposal method has not been established yet. The cesium adsorbed zeolite need to be solidified to improve the handling ability and leak tightness of radiation for final disposal, the cement solidification method is one option as a solidification method for cesium adsorbed zeolite.
Based on this back ground, we measured the physical properties of cement solid form mixed with zeolites as the basic study to examine the feasibility of the cement solidification method. We adopted the mix proportion which mixed with high early strength portland cement and fly-ash because we considered the influence of radiolysis of water which is needed for hydration reaction. The tests which we carried out are compressive strength test, the pore diameter distribution measuring by mercury penetration method and the effective diffusion test of chloride ion.
As the results, it seems that the compressive strength of cement solid form mixed with zeolites is sufficient in terms of the load of falling dispersion and piling up, the cement matrix became dense, and the effective diffusion coefficient was slightly smaller compared with ordinary concrete.
