Abstract
1 ) Forelimbs of 61 toad larvae with various digital malformations induced by cultivation at a high temperature of 30 ± 1℃ were observed. 2 ) No significant skeletal anomalies could be found in the humerus and the radioulna, while various anomalies were recognized in the skeleton of the hand, i.e., the carpus, the metacarpus and the phalanx. 3 ) Relationship between the grossly observable digital malformations and the skeletal anomalies was clarified by the detailed anatomical observations of the skeletons of the hands. 4 ) The cause of the manifestation of the digital malformations in the hand was discussed in connection with the idea suggested by Tschumi.
