Abstract
Fifty-three patients suffering from genitourinary infections were treated with cephradine. Cephradine wasadministrated orally at the dosage of 1 or 2g for 3 to 12 days.
Of 30 patients with acute gonococcal urethritis, there were satisfactory therapeutic responses in 27 patients.
Of 10 patients with acute cystitis, clinical response was satisfactory in all patients. Of 13 patients with chronic cystitis, good responses were seen in 8 patients, but 5 patients were judged to show a poor response to cephradine.
The overall effective rate was 84. 5%. Bacteria disappeared in 46, decreased in 4 and colonized in 3 of the 53 strains. In 4 patients, gastro-intestinal disturbance was seen, and yet the drug administration was continued.
The action of cephradine to eradicate organisms in urine or pus is shown in Table 6. There was an eradication of the 46 organisms (86. 8%) in 53 urinary infections.
