Abstract
Some experimental and clinical studies on tobramycin were performed to obtain the following results :
1) Antibacterial activities of tobramycin against the tested organisms of Staph. aureus, E. coil, Proteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were almost similar to those of gentamicin with MIC value of 3.13 μg/ml or less against 70% of 16 strains of Pseudomonas
2) After intramuscular injection of tobramycin 80 mg to 2 patients with normal renal function, serum level of tobramycin was 8.6 to 9.0 μg/ml at 1 hour, 6.8 to 8.6 μg/ml at 2 hours and 2.4 μg/ml at 4 hours
3) Tobramycin was administered intramuscularly to 8 patients of respiratory tract infections at daily dosage of 80 to 160 mg for 10 days or more.
In 6 cases of Pseudomonas infections, bacteriological elimination of the organism was obtained in one case of chronic bronchitis and clinical improvement of symptoms was observed in other 5 cases.
4) Results of concomitant therapy of tobramycin with auto-vaccin and antibacterial activity of serum from the patient given tobramycin were mentioned.
