Abstract
Ceftizoxime (CZX), a new semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, was evaluated of clinical effect for genito-urinary tract infections.
1) The clinical effect for 21 cases of complicated urinary tract infections (4 acute pyelonephritis, 1 chronic pyelonephritis and 16 chronic cystitis) included 1 excellent case, 8 moderate cases and 12 poor effective cases, the overall effective rate being 42.9 %.
2) The clinical effect for 2 cases of acute simple pyelonephritis included 1 excellent case and 1 moderate case.
3) The clinical effect for 6 cases of infections of the male genital organ (3 acute epididymitis and 3 acute prostatitis) contained 5 excellent cases and 1 moderate case, the rate of effectiveness being 100%.
4) As for side effects, slight elevation of serum transaminase was observed in 3 cases.
