Abstract
Clinical evaluation was performed on ceftazidime (CAZ, SN401), a new cephalosporin antibiotic, and the results were obtained as follows:
1. Twelve cases of complicated urinary tract infections consisting of 5 cases of pyelonephritis and T cases of cystitis were treated with CAZ at the doses of 1g daily for 5 days. Excellent response was achieved in 4 cases and moderate in 7 cases, and the efficacy rate was 92%. In 2 cases of simple pyelonephritis, clinical responses obtained were excellent in 1 case and moderate in the other.
2. Also moderate response was obtained in 4 out of the 8 cases of epididymitis with efficacy rate 50%.
3. There was no side effect attributable to CAZ, nor was any abnormality noted in the laboratory findings.
