Abstract

NY-198, a new synthetic antimicrobial agent, was administered at a daily dose of 300-600mg to patients with urogenital infection.
In all, 11 patients were treated: acute uncomplicated cystitis (2), prostatitis (1), acute epididymitis (1) and complicated urinary tract infection (7).
Overall clinical efficacy was assessed by the doctors in charge as: 2 cases of acute uncomplicated cystitis, good; 1 case of chronic prostatitis, good; and 1 case of acute epididymitis, poor.
Five patients with complicated urinary tract infection were evaluated by the criteria of the Japanese UTI Commitee, and clinical response was excellent in 2 patients, moderate in 2 and poor in 1, the efficacy rate being 80%.
As to side-effects, one case of dizziness was observed. In addition, one case of increase in platelets and slight elevation of Al-P was noted.
