Abstract
We investigated the usefulness of TE-031 (A-56268) by administering it orally for seven days at 150 mg b. i. d. to patients with otorhinolaryngological infections, and assessed its clinical and bacteriological efficacy. The overall clinical efficacy (good+excellent) rate was 80.0%, the overall excellence rate being 66.7%. Classified by disease, the efficacy rates were 81.0% for otitis media and even higher for tonsillitis. Classified by type of disease, efficacy was greater in acute cases, with an overall efficacy rate of 91.3%. The bacteriological efficacy rate, calculated on the basis of eradication of the causative microbe, was 92.3% for S. aureus and 100% for S. pyogenes. There were no side-effects worthy of note.
