Abstract
A clinical study of the novel esterified oral cephem antibiotic ME 1207 was carried out. The level of ME 1206, an active metabolite of ME 1207, in pancreatic juice reached a peak of 0.12μg/ml at 8 hours after administration. ME 1207 was administered in doses of 100 to 200mg b. i. d. or t. i. d. to 19 patients with surgical infections (8 cases of infected atheroma, 2 of periproctal abscess, 2 of subcutaneous abscess, 3 of wound infection, 2 of felon and 1 case each of furuncle and lymphadenitis). The response to ME 1207 was good in 17, fair in 1, and poor in 1. The effectiveness rate was 89.5%. No adverse reactions were observed. Based on the results of this study it can be said that ME 1207 is a effective antibiotic.
