Abstract
Radioactive cesium desorption experiments were carried out in batch system using two types of dairy cow composts, one is lightly contaminated (590 Bq/kg DM) and other is heavily contaminated (7500 Bq/kg DM) with radioactive cesium from the nuclear accident of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant. Concentration in the extract from lightly contaminated compost was 4.2 Bq/kg for distilled water extract and 36.1 Bq/kg for 1 mol/L KCl solution extract. That from heavily contaminated compost was 119 Bq/kg for distilled water extract and 210 Bq/kg for 1 mol/L KCl solution extract. Cesium in the extract from the heavily contaminated compost was more efficiently trapped by a sheet containing prussian blue than the other sheets containing zeolite or bentonaite.
