Abstract

We investigated the mechanism underlying stereotypical verbal paraphasia in a patient with severe Wernicke's aphasia.

A decline in both word retrieval and comprehension abilities was considered a mechanism underlying stereotypical verbal paraphasia.

The decrease in lexical representations mirrors that seen in semantic dementia, both of which restrict lexical selection associated with the temporal lobe and result in stereotypical verbal paraphasia or a repetitive, clock-like speech pattern.
