Background and Objective for Revising the Building Regulations on RC Structures in 2007

Abstract

Japanese Building Standard Law have been revised and enforced in 2007 to meet the issue arisen from the affair of camouflage of seismic performance come to light in 2005. This paper focuses on the RC structural regulations, and introduces what was a trigger of the code revision, what concept was incorporated for the revision, and how the structural regulations were revised. Some ideas for research activities in the future, as my private view through the experiences on the code revision, are also indicated.
