Abstract

Cyclic loading tests were performed on five CLT shear walls to study their structural seismic performance. Each CLT shear wall was composed of an RC frame and one/multiple CLT panels. Panels' top and bottom ends were provided with shear keys of a trapezoid shape. These shear keys were embedded in the RC beams of the frame to ensure a proper transfer of shear forces from frame to panels. For ease of construction, the case of vertically partitioned CLT panels was considered. The partitioned CLT panels were also provided at their mutual vertical joint with the same previously mentioned shaped shear keys. All the specimens showed, under lateral loadings, a ductile behavior and satisfactory load-deflection curves. The lateral load carrying capacity had decreased gradually after the peak until a drift angle beyond 3%. Based on the test results, an evaluation method for the maximum shear strength of CLT panels in RC frames was proposed. Evaluated strengths using the proposed method for CLT shear walls showed a good agreement with the test results.
