Abstract
Various building materials and structures mainly of cement and concrete are re-examined and compared with others in terms of energy conservation. Construction energy and thermal properties of such structures are also examined. Under the same condition, Portland cement and reinforced concrete structures prove less energy-consuming than steel and its structures, for example. Cement and concrete, being quite flexible in shape, strength, density and thus thermal properties, are readily adjustable and desirable to our energy-conscious age.
