The Shirashima Oil Storage Base of a floating tank type is now under construction for the first time in the world and attracts a lot of attention because of the uniqueness of its storage system. The main concrete structures in this project are breakwater caissons surrounding the base to exclude large waves from the open sea and dolphin caissons which are installed in deep water to moor the oil storage ships. This report shows the summary of the structures and the construction of these large-scale caissons; the rationalized construction method by using the slipforming method and a large floating dock are adopted in this project.
