Abstract

There have been many papers on durability of concrete and concrete structures, including the effects of silica fume on durability of concrete. Through these investigations, the effectiveness of silica fume can be explained by the following two characteristics of silica fume ; (1) Very small particle size (Average diameter is less than 1 μ m), (2) Very high pozzolanic reactivity (Amorphous SiO2 content is more than 85 %). Influences of silica fume on the durability of concrete were described in this report on the basis of the characteristics of silica fume. Especially, “domestic” problems on silica fume were discussed in this report.
