To support the global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by midcentury, the maritime sector is exploring various strategies for energy efficiency and emission reduction. As part of these efforts, a multi-connected pusher-barge system is studied as a project of Japan Ship Technology Research Association, seeks to bring the flexibility and scalability of inland convoys into seagoing applications. This study seeks to enhance the understanding on seakeeping performance of multi-connected pusher-barge system, evaluates the wave-induced motions and connection loads of a triple-connected pusher-barge using both experimental and numerical approaches. Captive model tests were conducted in towing tank base at Hiroshima University, assessing hull motions and loads on coupling devices under different conditions. These experiments provided validation data for numerical simulations carried out using an in-house code modified from the New Strip Method (NSM), with the results showing good agreement with experimental data.
