Abstract
This study aimed at verifying the relationships between sibling-patterns, characteristic traits, and shyness from the viewpoint of psychological distances. The subjects were 1800 students ranging from elementary school pupils to university. The subjects were asked to evaluate psychological distances and characteristic traits. Validity and reliability of psychological distance scale were examined. Results showed that psychological distances were significantly different in sibling-patterns. Significant relationships were revealed between sibling-patterns and characteristic traits/shyness. The validity and reliability of the Psychological Distance Scale were verified.
