Abstract
The purpose of this study was to lead the parents of 247 3-6 grade children to do the Social Skills Training at Home (SSTH) during summer and winter vacation and to examine the effects of SSTH. The target skill of the SSTH during summer vacation was "good listening" and the target skill of the SSTH during winter vacation was "good speaking." In the SSTH, the parents demonstrated the target skills as a model to their children and gave positive reinforcement to them when they executed the target skills. To measure the effects of the SSTH, we asked the parents to answer a questionnaire about their children's execution of target skills at home two times (before and after each vacation). The parents were also asked to comment freely on their experience of the SSTH. The results showed that the SSTH was effective in two ways. First, it helped the children to master the target skills at home. Second, it promoted communication between the children and the parents. The paper ends by discussing some of the problems in advancing the SSTH from now on.
