Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify features of psychological mechanisms that can be used to avoid the mental collapse of cancer patients. Twenty patients (13 males, 7 females, average age: 60.6) were analyzed by the Grounded Theory Approach (Strauss & Corbin, 1990). As a result, seven categories (circulative repeating of mental reaction, increasing of mental tention, swaying of mental reaction, being influenced by idea of life, changing of idea of life, mutually influencing among family, conflicting by loss of identity) were identified as categories for features of psychological mechanisms of cancer patients. In addition, three attitudes (promotion of emotional expression, receptive watching and positive intervention, whole support for cancer patients and family) were suggested to be helpful for the people taking part in psychological support for cancer patients.
