Abstract
In this study, we aimed to show the validity of causality of negative life events and differentiation of self in terms of time series. Questionnaires were administered twice to the same group of high school students (n=60) of metropolitan area. The interval was three weeks. First of all we confirmed the test-retest reliability of the differentiation of self scale because it had not been done yet. We analyzed it after controlling the influence of negative life events. Then we tested the change of differentiation of self under the influence of negative life events using a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. As a result, it was shown that the foregoing negative life events lowered the following differentiation of self. However, it was suggested that we need to reconsider the interval of investigations.
