The purpose of the present study was to examine the frequency of help-seeking behaviors and the relationships between optimality of help-seeking and help-seeking preferences. A web-based questionnaire was completed by 618 adolescents and 824 adults. The results indicated that (a) the percentage of excessive help-seeking was smaller than that of avoidance help-seeking, (b) “positive expectations for receiving help” was related to excessive and self-directed help-seeking styles, and (c) “thoughts of resistance toward receiving help” was related to avoidance help-seeking style.
