Abstract
Pre-training seminars on accident prevention during practical training are implemented in order to guarantee the safety of students and patients, as well as to prevent accidents during practical training in adult nursing. Seminars comprise independent study and group discussion using case studies. The present study aimed to assess the learning of students in such seminars and the use of this learning in practical training, and to identify changes in student learning by repeating the seminars twice, together with changes in awareness of accident prevention during practical training. Participants were third-year nursing students taking a practical training course in adult nursing who completed a written questionnaire on two occasions after finishing seminars on chronic period practical training and acute period practical training. The results showed that 90% of students imagined the accident situation, identified the cause of the accident, and could think about actions to prevent the accident in independent study, while 80% of students deepened their learning through group discussion. In addition, during practical training, they were able to apply their learning to take accident prevention measures such as predicting accidents and supplementing their fledgling knowledge and skills. In terms of changes through repeating the seminars twice, 70% of students responded that their depth of learning had not changed. These findings provide insights into seminar methods for linking students' knowledge to actual practice.
