Abstract
We conducted the physical assessment for the nurses working at nursing homes for the elderly people in Chiba Prefecture. We evaluated the results of this year's execution of the program, which is the 3rd year since it started, and set the themes for the next year: The training program consisted of 1) fundamental medical knowledge necessary for the physical assessment, 2) general knowledge on the physical assessment and the physical assessment on respiratory, circulatory and digestive organs, 3) implementation of case-based physical assessment, and 4) interchange of participants for sharing the practical problems and countermeasures. For the training session this year, there was attendance of 28 nursing workers from 28 institutions. Through discussion by the participants, it was found that the introduction of training methods based on the contents and cases mostly met their needs. On the other hand, from the participants, there were the training needs for the physical assessment methods for more specific symptoms and the subsequent methods to be addressed and/or the training needs of sharing and working together for the knowledge/technique/judgment in working with caregivers in their jobs. It was suggested that planning and conducting a training session for coping with such needs would be the task to be solved in future.
