Chromosome Segregation in Hybrids between Extracted AABB Tetraploids and Common Wheat Varieties

Abstract

Chromosome segregation was studied in pentaploid hybrids resulting from crosses between extracted AABB tetraploids and varieties of common wheat. Varietal differences were observed in univalent elimination in the F₂ progeny. No clear-cut association could be made between the differences in cytological behaviour that were observed in the various meiotic stages examined and the final outcome in terms of mean chromosome numbers in the progeny.
