Histochemical Analysis of Origin and Composition of Compound Yolks of Chrotogonus trachypterus (Orthoptera)

Abstract

Two categories of compound yolks originate during vitellogenesis of Chrotogonus trachypterus. CY₁ bodies originate near the peripheral ooplasm of the oocyte of stage 6 while CY₂ develop in the central ooplasm of the oocyte of stage 8. Histochemically, while CY₁ bodies are composed of polysaccharides (including glycogen), proteins (basic proteins, proteins bound reactive -NH₂, -SS and -SH groups and tyrosine) and RNA; CY₂ bodies consist of polysaccharide (including malt diastase and salivary amylase resistant glycogen and acid mucopolysaccharide), proteins (basic proteins, proteins bound reactive -NH₂ group, arginine, histidine and tyrosine) and RNA.
