Abstract
The Japanese Writing Support Unit has given students guidance in writing documents such as papers and entry sheets (registration forms) for job application since 2010. The aim of this paper is to summarize and report the major practices of guidance from the start of the unit to September 2014. Some case examples of practice both before writing (on the planning phase) and after writing (on the revision phase) are introduced separately. This paper reveals the problems and methods of guidance, focusing on what guidance and support students need on each phase and on how instructors should analyze the problems in student writing and work with students to improve their documents. It also describes the importance of providing guidance in consideration of the whole writing process through the case examples.
