Trend of Quality Assurance of Steel Products Using Machine Vision Systems

Abstract

Most all rolled steel produces such as wire rods or round bars are inspected its surface and internal quality by inline automatic flaw detector, whereas forged or caste products which rather have complicate shapes are inspected its surface quality by visual inspection. These days, machine vision technology has been made a great progress. Speed, accuracy and environment of developing applications were improved rapidly. Machine vision system became a subject of investment in plant and equipment for the purpose of taking over the visual inspection made by operators. This review summarizes subjects of inspection of steel products, overviews recent technical progress of machine vision system and introduces a state of conditions of application of the machine vision system to factories.
