Abstract
In this paper the physical and chemical properties of the soils in Hainan were studied. The results are summarized as follows : (1) The soils in Hainan can be classified into a few types by their topography and mother rocks. That is : -[table](2) The low-land soils are characterized by their surrounding up-land soils, and are not so fertile in general. (3) The up-land soils are affected chiefly by the geologic conditions rather than the Pedologic process in this island.
