Abstract
The classification of the soil into the siallitic and allitic groups has an undeniable significance in subdividing the soil type and in estimating the agricultural value of the cultivable land. The questions in this line are discussed in this paper. The previous works and opinions of HILGARE, SEKI, HARRASSOWITZ, ALBERT, BENNET, and MARTIN and DOVNE, having connection with the subject of this paper are interpreted with the anthor's short critical and explanatory notes. In the case where the genetical tendency or the morphological character is particularly not concerned, the anthor prefers the denominations, allite and allitic soil to those frequently and carelessly used, laterite and lateritic soil. A new plan of the classification of our volcanogenous soils into (1) siallitic, (2) sub-siallitic, (3) acid sub-allitic, (4) sub-allitic and (5) allitic groups with reference to the slica/alumina ratio, dyestuff ratio and soil reaction is described and explained with the numerous examples.
