Abstract
1 This article reports the some results on the survey of the traditional wooden buildings and the carpentry tools carried out in September and December 2007 in Ha Nam province in the north, Thua-thien Hue province in the central and Ninh
Thuan province in the central-south of Vietnam.
2 Vietnamese traditional wooden buildings have characteristic structure form and detail design represented by the buildings in surveyed area even that are influenced by the Chinese civilization. Also it can be understand that the structural form in the north that has massive proportion and piled up beams is different from that has delicate proportion and the angled beam and the crown post in the central and the central-south area.
3 The characteristic structure influences the form and use of designing tools, and that is found in the ruler called thuoc sam and nack cap. The influence of China found in the shape and the usage. On the other hand, the usage of some characteristic tool as mallets and T-shaped axes is found.
